Nicole Rossi is a figurative painter using emotive abstractions to create narratives that are both vibrant and unsettling. Each painting weaves together imagery from folklore, medicine, and biology into a dreamlike allegory with ambiguous intent. Rossi uses surreal juxtapositions of the feminine and the grotesque to explore the history of modern day beliefs and superstitions. She grew up collecting bones and wildflowers on a remote hillside in upstate New York. Her adolescent summers were spent working as a reenactor in a 19th century pharmacy. She went on to receive her BFA from Alfred University and later earned a degree in Art Therapy.
